On Tuesday night, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Edward Cabrera needed to be carted off the field after an apparent injury. It occurred when he ran to cover first base in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cabrera needed to be carted off the field.
After the game , manager Craig Counsell said Cabrera’s injury would require an injured-list stint. It’s an injury to his hamstring that will require time to heal. This is not something the Cubs can afford with how many pitchers they are already doing without due to injury.
Because the Cubs play a doubleheader on Wednesday, they will have a 27th roster spot. Tyler Ferguson will be that man. With Edward Cabrera going to the IL, pitcher Vince Velasquez will be taking his place on the active roster.
Just last month, the Cubs had to put Edward Cabrera on the injured list due to a blister. Now, he heads back with a hamstring injury. When it comes to pitching injuries, the Cubs just cannot catch a break.
Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune relayed via social media that Craig Counsell was asked about the Cubs and their lack of pitching depth. His response was candid, saying, “Concerned. We’re in a tough spot.”
Cabrera joins Cade Horton, Matthew Boyd, and Jameson Taillon as pitchers who started the season in the Cubs rotation who are currently on the injured list. The bullpen is missing Daniel Palencia, the day-one closer. Justin Steele is rehabbing, but he l ikely will not start until 2027. The hits just keep on coming for this pitching staff.
