The Chicago Cubs are not expected to part with Seiya Suzuki before Monday's MLB trade deadline despite growing interest from rival clubs. According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, teams have inquired about both Suzuki and catcher Carson Kelly because of the limited supply of right-handed hitters and catchers available, but a source said both players are "highly unlikely to be dealt."

The report signals Chicago's intent to keep its core intact as it pushes toward the postseason rather than sacrificing key contributors for pitching help.

Suzuki has emerged as one of the Cubs' most productive hitters this season, batting .270 with an .836 OPS, 18 home runs and 60 RBIs in 93 games. He also holds a full no-trade clause, giving him complete control over any potential move.

Rosenthal's report also included Kelly among players drawing outside interest, though the veteran catcher is expected to remain in Chicago as well. With contenders searching for reliable catching help, Kelly's steady production and experience have increased his value around the league.

Rather than capitalize on that demand, the Cubs appear focused on maintaining stability as they chase a playoff berth. President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer is expected to prioritize additions over subtracting from Craig Counsell's everyday lineup.

Chicago entered Saturday with a 62-48 record, sitting second in the National League Central and 6.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. The club also remains firmly in the National League Wild Card race, making it difficult to justify moving one of its middle-of-the-order bats.

Keeping Suzuki and Kelly would preserve two important pieces of the offense while allowing the Cubs to continue pursuing October baseball. Unless another team presents an overwhelming offer, Chicago's stance suggests both veterans will remain part of its postseason push beyond the Monday deadline.
