The winds of change have swept through Chicago Cubs Spring Training over the last few days. Longtime MLB slugger Justin Turner has joined the team as depth on the infield, and Alexander Canario was designated for assignment as a result. In addition, one of the Cubs' young stars is making a change with his jersey number.
Per reports on Friday, Pete Crow-Armstrong is changing his number from #52 to #4.

Although context was left out of the original report regarding the change, Crow-Armstrong shared quite the story about Jed Hoyer, who initiated the switch. Per Crow-Armstrong, Hoyer told him he was "wearing a lineman number" and "needs a fast guy number." During a round of shooting hoops, Hoyer made a bet that if he hit a shot, Pete Crow-Armstrong changes his number. Apparently Jed Hoyer is quite the hooper when there is something on the line.
The story adds a fun layer to the news, and Crow-Armstrong seems like he's on board. Canario previously wore the number, so his designation for assignment opened up part of this opportunity. Although numbers like #6 were available, #4 was the choice by PCA.
New number, new look, same Pete Crow-Armstrong.
