Cubs Predicted to Land Award Winner to Solve Infield Issues

The Chicago Cubs enter the next few weeks with some big priorities, as the trade deadline will allow them to improve their MLB roster. For a Cubs team looking to win a World Series, there's no excuse for Chicago not to get the job done.

However, the 2025 MLB draft is also next week, and the Cubs have proven over the past few years that they're willing to invest heavily in their farm system.

The Cubs arguably have the best farm system in baseball, and that should only get better next week, holding the No. 17 overall pick and many other selections.

When searching for who the Cubs might take at No. 17, USA Today recently linked them to Wehiwa Aloy, a shortstop out of the University of Arkansas who won the Golden Spikes Award, awarded to the best college baseball player in the nation, last season.

“We’ll stubbornly keep Aloy ticketed to the Cubs, even as a strong postseason that ended in Omaha further buttressed his profile. He might have smoother actions around the bag than Arquette, even if his offensive punch grades out a notch below the fellow Hawaiian collegiate star,” they wrote.

It continues to be somewhat surprising that Aloy isn't a top 10 pick, as he did everything at Arkansas to prove he’s that good.

However, given he's a bit older than some other draft prospects, it's likely hurting him. Still, what he does offensively can't go unnoticed.

If the Cubs were able to add that to their farm system, there's a strong argument to be made that he could be a top-five prospect in their system from day one.
