Chicago Cubs pitching prospect Jesus Camargo Corrales was arrested in Colorado on Wednesday after police allegedly found 21 pounds of methamphetamine and 1.2 pounds of oxycodone in his equipment bag, according to 9News Denver.
Per the report, the 25-year-old was pulled over on St. Patrick's Day after police saw the vehicle Camargo was driving, speeding and drifting between lanes. According to the arrest affidavit, Camargo was in the vehicle with two passengers, and the trio was traveling from Arizona to Denver so the pitcher could teach at a baseball clinic.
Deputy Evan Jaramillo asked Camargo if there were any drugs in the vehicle. The pitcher replied "no," explaining that he has to follow a strict drug policy because he plays in Major League Baseball.
Deputies searched the car and found a Cubs duffel bag that belonged to Camargo in an area under the rear seat containing baseball gloves, cleats, bags of a white substance, two green packages and a bag that was suspected of being "doused with essential oils" that had $1,000 cash in it, 9News reports.
Camargo was arrested on four felony charges: distribution of meth, distribution of oxycodone, possession of meth and possession of drugs. He is being held under $75,000 bond. The two other people in the vehicle were released after it was determined they did not know about the drugs in the car.
Camargo signed with the Cubs in 2014 and was assigned to the High-A South Bend Cubs in February.
