The Chicago Cubs’ season ended in the NLDS with a Game 5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. After rallying from a two-game deficit to even the series, Chicago fell short in the decisive matchup. Still, the Cubs made meaningful progress by returning to the postseason for the first time since 2020.
Kyle Tucker was a key contributor to the team’s offensive success in 2025. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger joined Chicago last offseason via trade from the Houston Astros. Tucker appeared in 136 games, posting a .266 batting average, .377 on-base percentage, .841 OPS, 22 home runs and 73 RBIs. Despite battling injuries and a dip in production late in the year, Tucker remained a strong fit in the lineup and delivered consistent value.
With Tucker heading to unrestricted free agency following the conclusion of the World Series, the Cubs’ top priority will be securing him on a long-term deal. On Wednesday, the team also took a moment to recognize his standout season. Tucker was named a Silver Slugger finalist for the National League in right field, joining teammates Pete Crow-Armstrong (center field) and Nico Hoerner (second base) in receiving nominations. "A round of applause for our guys. ,” the team wrote on X.
If Tucker wins, it would be his first Silver Slugger Award with the Cubs and the second of his career. Silver Slugger finalists and winners are selected by National League managers and coaches. Each team casts four votes, including one from the manager and three from coaches of their choosing. The voting process combines offensive metrics such as OPS, home runs, RBIs and batting average with each voter’s overall evaluation of a player’s offensive value.

Tucker’s efforts have been recognized throughout the league, but the Cubs face a critical decision. Multiple teams are expected to pursue Tucker aggressively in free agency, signaling that Chicago may have serious competition for his services.
The Cubs, who traded for Tucker last offseason and saw him thrive in their lineup, now risk losing one of their most impactful bats after just one year. His blend of power, plate discipline and postseason experience makes him a top target across the league. For a team looking to build on its 2025 playoff return, retaining Tucker will be essential to maintaining offensive momentum.
