Cubs Reportedly Calling Up Infield Prospect BJ Murray

The Chicago Cubs are calling up first baseman/third baseman BJ Murray from Triple-A Iowa, major-league sources told FanSided’s Robert Murray.

The move has not been announced by the club. It would come as rosters expand Tuesday and give manager Craig Counsell another versatile bat for the stretch run.

Murray, a 26-year-old switch-hitter from Nassau, Bahamas, has been one of Iowa’s steadiest hitters. FanSided reported he is slashing .294/.395/.500 with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs at Triple-A this season. He can play first base, third base and has seen time in left field.

A 15th-round pick in 2021 out of Florida Atlantic, Murray has spent six seasons in the Cubs system. He represented Great Britain in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Chicago has already shuffled its infield this month. Dansby Swanson is on the injured list with a left oblique strain, Matt Shaw was activated from the IL over the weekend, and Kevin Alcántara was optioned to Iowa. A corresponding roster move would be required if Murray is added to the 26-man roster.
