Cubs' Young Star Joins Elite Company Before All-Star Break

Chicago Cubs centerfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has taken the MLB by storm in 2025, and with just one series left before the All-Star break, he's put a cherry on top of his incredible first half of the season.

In the Cubs' series finale against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon, Crow-Armstrong went 3-4 with two home runs, which put his home run total at 25 on the season. The electric outfielder came into the game with 23 home runs and 27 stolen bases.

With his two home runs on Thursday, Crow-Armstrong joined just two other players in MLB history to accomplish 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases before the All-Star break. San Francisco Giants legend Barry Bonds and Cincinnati Reds' Eric Davis are the only two other players to accomplish the feat, and PCA is the first to do so since 1987.

"I've only been humbled by the names that I'm mentioned with. Eric Davis is about as, like, all-around, bad-(expletive) as a centerfielder ever gets, so it's pretty cool," Crow-Armstrong told reporters after Thursday's game. "But, again like we're not even at the break, so I got three more (games) to go finish strong, and make sure that we got a good lead in the division. Then we start thinking about fun second half things."

Crow-Armstrong has been one of the catalysts in a Cubs' offense that leads the MLB in runs per game with 5.38, and his defense in centerfield has been just as good.

At the plate, the Cubs' star is hitting .271 with an .869 OPS and 70 RBI. If you dive deeper into Crow-Armstrong's stats, it gets even crazier what the young centerfielder has accomplished.

Following his two-home run game Thursday, Crow-Armstrong is just the seventh player in MLB history to have at least five multi-HR games and five multi-SB games in a season, and he's done it before the All-Star break.

Then, you can look at Cubs' history and compare his numbers to those of some of the greatest people who wear the uniform. Only four times in Cubs' history has a player had 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases in a season, and it was done twice by Ryan Sandberg and Sammy Sosa. Crow-Armstrong has done it before the All-Star break.

On the defensive side, the unicorn in centerfield has collected 10 five-star (catch probability less than 25 percent) catches this season. There have been 61 total five-star catches in the MLB this season. In perspective, the Boston Red Sox have the second-most five-star catches as a team in the MLB, and they have eight.

"(PCA) impacts the game in a huge way," manager Craig Counsell said after Thursday's win.

The Cubs have a young, rising superstar in centerfield. Crow-Armstrong showed his defensive wizardry in his rookie season, and now the bat has come alive. If he continues to perform the way he has in the first half of the season, Crow-Armstrong could lead the Cubs on a deep playoff run this postseason and make plenty of individual history.
