The New York Yankees shocked the baseball world on Friday, removing its anti-facial hair policy for the 2025 season. Shortly after this decision was made, Derek Jeter went on social media to share his thoughts.
Hal Steinbrenner, the managing general partner of the Yankees, had a press conference this week to discuss this monumental change. The franchise basically said it's time for them to adjust their ways. After all, the team can't afford to lose out on potential free agents because of a facial hair policy.
"In recent weeks I have spoken to a large number of former and current Yankees -- spanning several eras -- to elicit their perspectives on our longstanding facial hair and grooming policy, and I appreciate their earnest and varied feedback," Steinbrenner said in a statement. "These most recent conversations are an extension of ongoing internal dialogue that dates back several years. Ultimately the final decision rests with me, and after great consideration, we will be amending our expectations to allow our players and uniformed personnel to have well-groomed beards moving forward. It is the appropriate time to move beyond the familiar comfort of our former policy."
Jeter, the all-time hits leader for the Yankees, was never allowed to sport a beard during his 20-year run in the Bronx. That never seemed to be an issue for him though.
Nonetheless, Jeter seems pretty amped up about the Yankees' rule change.
On Friday night, Jeter shared an AI-generated photo of him rocking a beard while wearing pinstripes.
"New rules," Jeter wrote for his Instagram caption.
Suffice to say, Jeter is more than OK with the Yankees changing their ways in 2025.

Current players on the Yankees, including Gerrit Cole, are also on board with this rule change.
"It’s appropriate. It makes sense," Cole told reporters. "It still embodies our look and neatness, but allows for some individual freedom and a few less razor burns."
The Yankees will make sure their players still look "clean" while sporting facial hair.
Some fans are applauding the Yankees for making this move, whereas others believe they caved to outside pressure.
