SAN DIEGO – Arizona had the answers and came on strong on Wednesday night as the D-Backs defeated the San Diego Padres by a score of 8-2 at Petco Park.
Brandon Pfaadt was outstanding on Wednesday night, and was leading the way for this Diamondbacks ball club as he pitched eight innings and only allowed two earned runs on four hits. The D-Backs and Pfaadt were able to get out of the first inning unscathed after a lead-off double from Fernando Tatis Jr. Pfaadt at one point retired 13 Padres batters in a row before giving up a single in the bottom of the fifth. Pfaadt finished the eighth inning for the first time in his career, and led the way for the D-Backs.
Arizona was embracing the longball on Wednesday night. It got started when James McCann hit a solo home run, followed by Eugenio Suárez hitting a solo homer of his own an inning later to give the Diamondbacks a quick 2-0 lead.

Leaving runners on base has been an issue for the Snakes, although they broke through when Geraldo Perdomo came in the clutch and hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning to give the D-Backs a 6-0 lead.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has been on fire as of late and continued his hot streak on Wednesday night as he went 2-for-4 including two doubles. Tristin English took over duties at first base for the D-Backs and made his MLB Debut in front of friends and family, he was able to get his first big league RBI in his first win as a major leaguer.
Arizona won by a score of 8-2 and takes the series lead two games to one over the San Diego Padres and will have a chance to avoid a series tie on Thursday night at Petco Park.
