MILWAUKEE — A 16th player earned a save for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers, as D-Backs rookie Taylor Rashi secured a 6-4 win and a series split.

Rashi made his debut for the Snakes, pitching 3.0 scoreless innings and giving up only two hits with three strikeouts. The 29-year-old’s final batter was Brewers’ star Christian Yelich, whom Rashi was able to ground out in a tense bottom of the 9th inning for the win.

“The guys here have been super supportive, coaching staff came up to me and just said, ‘Hey, do the same thing you always do,’” said Rashi, according to the Diamondbacks’ post-game broadcast. “[I] was a little bit shaky today, wasn’t quite as crisp as I normally am. But when that happens, you just have to find a way.”

The right-handed pitcher was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2019 before being selected by the Diamondbacks in the 2022 Rule 5 Draft. He has been in the D-Backs’ minor league system for three years.

The rookie joins a long list of players who have made saves for the Snakes this season. His appearance breaks a previous MLB record that was set on Aug. 23 when D-Backs pitcher Jake Woodford was given the save against the Cincinnati Reds.

Rashi now joins three other players in franchise history who recorded saves in their MLB debuts: Taylor Clarke, Jon Duplantier and Byung-Hyun Kim.

Rashi’s debut sealed a win and series split from one of the hottest teams in baseball, all while etching his name into D-Backs and MLB history with the save.
