Daulton Varsho and Yimi García may both begin rehab assignments at single-A Dunedin next week, Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said prior to Friday’s series opener versus the Chicago White Sox.

Varsho (hamstring) felt fine after running the bases on Thursday, and the hope is he’ll be ready to return to game action by mid-week. He’s also been playing catch and taking batting practice since being placed on the 10-day IL on June 1.

García (shoulder) successfully threw live BP Thursday at the player development complex in Dunedin. He could pitch for the D-Jays early next week, per Schneider.

Schneider also provided an update on Ryan Burr, who’s scheduled to pitch for triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. He’s made seven total rehab appearances thus far, one since resuming his rehab assignment on June 17 following a brief shutdown due to a setback in his recovery from a shoulder injury.

García last pitched for Toronto on May 22 against the San Diego Padres. In 21 relief appearances this season, the right-handed reliever owns a 3.15 ERA and 2.96 FIP with 24 strikeouts and 10 walks. He returned to the organization over the off-season, signing a two-year deal worth $15 million.

Varsho, who injured his hamstring running from second to third during a game versus the Athletics on May 31, had eight home runs and 20 RBIs with a .207/.240/.543 slash line over 24 games before hitting the IL.

After activating Nick Sandlin from the IL on Friday, the Blue Jays may soon face a numbers crunch once García and Burr — with the latter out of options — return, with the team having to sacrifice one of the eight spots on a multi-inning reliever to help cover innings during bullpen games.
