The Los Angeles Dodgers have enjoyed some success in the early stages of the season, but will now be without their best player over the next few days.
According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Shohei Ohtani is going on the paternity list. As a result, Eddie Rosario has joined the team.
"Shohei Ohtani is going on the paternity list, Dave Roberts said. That’s why Eddie Rosario is here," he wrote.
Ohtani, one of the greatest players in Major League Baseball history, has had some exciting moments in his life. Welcoming his child into the world will surely add to the list.
On the diamond, he's played well once again, hitting a home run in two of his past three games. Ohtani is hitting .288 with six home runs, eight RBI, 23 hits, and 12 walks in 80 at-bats.
It remains uncertain how long he'll be away from the Dodgers. This could take Ohtani a day or two, while others have been on the list for some time.
Regardless, this is one of those moments in a player's life that's more important than baseball.
Ohtani, 30 years old, has kept his life private, for the most part. While there could be some photos of his child over the next few days, it wouldn't be surprising to see him continue the trend of being an under-the-radar guy.
The Dodgers will take on the Texas Rangers for a three-game set starting on Friday night in Arlington in what should be a competitive series.
