David Peterson couldn't stop the New York Mets from dropping a sixth consecutive game on Monday night.
The Mets lost 4-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first of a three-game series, falling to 7-10 for the season.
This was their second consecutive shutout, taking their scoreless streak to 20 innings. With that in mind, Peterson shared an honest assessment of the vibes in the clubhouse in the early stage of the season.
“It obviously sucks losing games. The guys are working their butts off, and I know they'll continue to come to the yard and everyone will work their butts off and compete every night,” Peterson told SNY.
Peterson took his third loss of the season. He tossed 5.0 innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits, striking out seven hitters and walking four. His ERA is up to 6.41 with a 1.83 WHIP.
However, even if he wasn't sharp, his offense didn't do much to support him, amassing just three hits and drawing no walks.
Dodgers' Justin Wrobleski only needed 94 pitches to get through eight scoreless innings.
It's still early in the season, and there's more than enough time to turn things around. That said, being swept by the Athletics and failing to score in three of their last four games is as bad as it gets.
Carlos Mendoza hopes his team bounces back on Tuesday night when Nolan McLean takes his 1-1 record and 2.70 ERA to the mound against Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the second game of the series.
