Derek Hill Scratched from Saturday’s Game Against Tigers

The Chicago White Sox scratched outfielder Derek Hill from Saturday’s lineup against the Detroit Tigers.

Hill was originally in the starting lineup but was removed just prior to first pitch. The White Sox said the reason for the scratch was that Hill is experiencing upper-back tightness.

Hill has primarily served as a bench player and defensive replacement for the White Sox this season, but found himself in Saturday’s starting lineup. His removal comes as the team continues to manage multiple injuries, most notably Munetaka Murakami’s hamstring issue.

Rikuu Nishida replaced Hill in center. It is Nishida’s first appearance in center at the major league level.
