The Chicago Cubs have been one of the more active teams during the offseason, and while they still await the decision of Alex Bregman's free agency, the team still has needs to address to complete their roster.
Throughout the offseason, Chicago acquired Kyle Tucker and Ryan Pressly in trades with the Houston Astros. The Cubs also traded away left-handed slugger Cody Bellinger to the New York Yankees.
With all these moves, here are a couple of questions the Cubs still need to answer before Opening Day.
If Bregman Signs With the Cubs, What Is Matt Shaw’s Role?
Matt Shaw is the Cubs' top prospect, and as of right now, he is slated to be the starter at third base.
If Alex Bregman chooses the Cubs, what happens with Shaw? Does the team still look to give him everyday at-bats? Should they move off someone like Nico Hoerner to give Shaw more opportunities in another position?
It's certainly a storyline to watch.
Does the Team Add Another Starter via Trade?
Earlier this week, I proposed a trade for the Cubs that would send Seiya Suzuki to the Boston Red Sox in return for Brayan Bello and some of Boston's top prospects.
Chicago has a solid rotation, but it is southpaw-heavy, with Justin Steele and Shota Imanaga at the top.
Could Chicago think about adding a hard-throwing right-hander to even the starting pitching out?
It might be in the Cubs' best interest.
