Detroit Tigers 2025: There’s Always Next Season

Where do they go from here? Hopefully up! Here’s a few key takeaways for consideration:

First, despite the late standings collapse, the Tigers managed to win one more game from their previous 2024 record, boosting their win-loss ratio from .531 to .537. Not a mouth watering statistic, but it still points in the right direction.

Second, a boost in the central division rankings from 3rd place in 2024 to 2nd place in 2025, with the Cleveland Guardians only possessing a one game edge at the end. Since the Guardians were predicated to be heavy favorites for World Series contention this season, this is a huge win in my book.

Third, in the entirety of the 2024 postseason, the Tigers were shut out in 1 of 6 games and amassed a total of 18 runs scored. This postseason, the Tigers were never shut out and amassed a total of 26 runs scored. An 8 run improvement, which at quick glance doesn’t seem like much, but if managed correctly, could’ve been decisive in helping the Tigers advance to ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fourth, strikeouts were a heavy burden on Detroit this postseason, thus being the frustration coming from a greater majority of Tigers fans. They struckout a total of 59 times during 6 games against the Guardians and Mariners combined. Would you believe that this same team struckout 81 times last postseason? So yup, another win for the improvement category.

Fifth, let’s talk money. Financials get you where you want to be in this business. The big market powerhouses that are the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, both have payroll salaries north of $300 million, while small market team, the Detroit Tigers, have a considerably less payroll salary that just breaks $150 million. For the second straight season, the Detroit Tigers earned their place into a deep postseason position that we wish went just a little bit further. To lose a 15 inning bout with a World Series contender was well worth the price of admission. That being said, with team finances aside, Detroit is aligned with where they’re supposed to be.

In the grand scheme of things, I’m happy that Tigers are progressing slowly but surely. I know it’s been a long time since they’ve tasted the World Series and I strongly believe that they are at the tip of making it back there again. Without a doubt, I’ll gladly take with stride, the ups and downs that the Tigers endured in 2025.

Most importantly, this off-season has to be treated with great care and the management needs to acknowledge that if you want nice things, you have to pay nice prices. Nice meaning “costly”, and why wouldn’t you if you have the means to do so? Finger pointing and making excuses as to why the Detroit Tigers didn’t go any further is an absolute waste of time and effort. This wasted time could be better utilized putting together solid contracts and cementing the team that’ll lead the city of Detroit to a championship that it so richly deserves. Detroit loves its teams, and it’s time that those organizations start loving them back.
