The Detroit Tigers began the week on a high note. Detroit defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 this evening at home. Detroit used the long ball to help clinch the win. Third Baseman Javier Baez hit a two-run shot, Second Baseman Colt Keith added a solo home run, and Right Fielder Zach McKinstry added another solo homer. This win propelled Detroit to 24 games over .500. It was the first time they have accomplished this since 2013. That season, they ended up losing the ALCS. Will the Detroit Tigers continue playing at such a high level this season?

Detroit(58-34) has the best record in Major League Baseball. Their offense has been stellar. They are ninth in the league in batting average, sixth in home runs, and fourth in runs scored. Left Fielder Riley Greene has paced the team’s offense. He is ninth in home runs and sixth in RBI.
Detroit’s pitching staff has also been strong. They are second in ERA, third in WHIP, and sixth in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Tarik Skubal is putting together another Cy Young-caliber campaign. He is second in the league in wins, third in ERA, second in strikeouts, and leading the league in WHIP.
The Detroit Tigers return to the diamond tomorrow night for the middle game of their three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays. If the Tigers can continue playing this well, no team will want to face them in the postseason.
