The Detroit Tigers will play the middle game of their three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight. The Tigers dropped the opener 8-1 to the Phillies as Casey Mize had a rough first inning giving up four runs, two on a Bryce Harper double, and the other two on an Alec Bohm two-run home run. Today’s matchup features a pitching matchup that will be a must-watch with Tarik Skubal going against Ranger Suarez. Before tonight’s game, Easton Lucas has been recalled for tonight’s game while Mason Englert has been optioned.
Lucas was selected off waivers by the Tigers on May 18th. He’s been pitching at Triple-A Toledo making ten appearances going 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, a 4.9 BB/9, and a 12.3 K/9 in 14.2 innings. He also spent time with the Oakland A’s making three appearances posting a 14.73 ERA, a 3.00 WHIP, a 7.4 BB/9, and a 14.7 K/9 in 3.2 innings. At the A’s Triple-A affiliate, he made 11 appearances with one of those coming as a start going 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, a 4.6 BB/9, and a 7.5 K/9 in 15.2 innings.
Englert is in his second season with Detroit, this season he’s made 11 appearances going 1-0 with a 5.95 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, a 1.8 BB/9, and a 6.4 K/9 in 19.2 innings. He’s also pitched at Triple-A Toledo making 17 appearances going 3-0 with a 2.35 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, a 3.5 BB/9, and a 13.3 K/9 in 23 innings.
