Detroit Tigers utility player Javier Baez had a game for the ages Tuesday night at home against the Boston Red Sox. He is the first player in league history to hit a walk-off home run for his second lead-flipping 3+ run homer of the game. He hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 6th and a walk-off three-run shot in the bottom of the 11th.
Baez also joined a short list of Detroit Tigers players to have multiple home runs in a game, including a walk-off. The last time it happened was when Matt Vierling accomplished it in May 2024. Baez has been an enigmatic player throughout his MLB career. He is hitting .319 this season with 5 home runs and 27 RBI. Can Baez continue being a contributor for the Detroit Tigers?

Detroit has been great in 2025. They have the American League’s best record at 28-15. The Tigers have been tremendous on offense this year. They are fifth in batting average, eighth in home runs, and third in runs scored. First Baseman Spencer Torkelson is top 10 in the league in home runs and RBI.
Detroit’s pitching staff has also been stellar. They are third in ERA, fourth in opposing batting average, and third in WHIP. Starting Pitchers Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal have led the pitching staff. Mize is tied for the league in wins and Skubal is top 10 in ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP.
Baez and the Detroit Tigers return to the diamond this evening for the final game of their three-game set with the Boston Red Sox. Detroit is looking for the series sweep. Baez’s performance has been a welcome sight for the Tigers. He is having a career season for one of the deepest lineups in Major League Baseball.
