The Detroit Tigers announced earlier today that Starting Pitcher Jackson Jobe will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He was having a solid 2025 campaign. Jobe was 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA. His last start came against the San Francisco Giants on May 28. How will the Detroit Tigers fare without Jobe in the starting rotation?

Detroit Tigers Off To a Great Start

It has been a dream start to the regular season for the Tigers. They own the league’s best record. They are 44-24. Even though Jobe will no longer be in the picture, Detroit’s pitching staff is one of the best in Major League Baseball.

They are fourth in the league in ERA, second in WHIP, and sixth in opposing batting average. The unit is led by reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. He is eighth in the league in ERA, fourth in strikeouts, and second in WHIP. Jack Flaherty is also 14th in the league in strikeouts and 19th in WHIP. The Tigers should be able to overcome Jobe’s injury.

Final Thoughts

Jobe’s road to pitch again is a long one. Tommy John surgery usually includes at least a nine month recovery. It is not uncommon though for a pitcher to be out for over 12 months. That means Jobe can return anywhere from April-July of 2026. He is an integral part of Detroit’s pitching staff. He will look to come back even stronger from this setback.
