Diamondbacks Bracing for Eugenio Suarez Trade After Third Straight Loss

Third baseman Eugenio Suarez is in his 12th major-league season and his second as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Suarez originally made his MLB debut for the Detroit Tigers in 2014 but was dealt a season later to the Cincinnati Reds, where he spent seven seasons establishing himself as an elite power threat.

Before the 2022 season began, the Reds parted ways with Suarez, sending the third baseman and teammate Jesse Winker to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for a prospect package.

After a brief two-year stint with the Mariners, they ultimately traded him to the Arizona Diamondbacks before the 2024 season began.

During Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, Suarez homered twice to cross the 30-home run mark for the fourth time in his career. However, the Diamondbacks still lost 10–5, marking their third straight defeat and dropping their record to 46–50.

Earlier today, via Bob Nightengale, the Diamondbacks made the decision to make the third baseman available for trade to a contender.

Last week, Suarez earned his second All-Star selection—his first since 2018—and through 94 games this season he’s batting .249 with an .886 OPS.

In his age-33 season, Suarez has already totaled 31 home runs in the first half and leads the National League in RBIs with 77.

With Suarez’s contract expiring at the end of the 2025 season and the Diamondbacks falling out of playoff contention, they now must brace for a future without the All-Star third baseman.
