On Friday, the Arizona Diamondbacks designated veteran infielder Luis Guillorme for assignment, clearing space on the roster for Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s return from the 10-day injured list.
Guillorme, a former 10th-round pick by the New York Mets in 2013, joined the Diamondbacks in late August, marking his third team of the season. The 29-year-old began the year with the Braves, moved to the Angels, where he appeared in 50 games, before landing in Arizona.
Though Guillorme wasn’t a regular starter, he provided valuable infield depth, particularly during Ketel Marte’s absence. However, since Marte’s return a few weeks ago, Guillorme has seen limited action, appearing in just three games. Overall, he played 18 games for the Diamondbacks, batting .162 (6-for-37) and primarily filling in at second base.
Guillorme’s short stint in Arizona will likely be remembered for his highlight-reel diving play against the Red Sox, where he robbed a base hit in just his third game with the team.

With Gurriel Jr. back in the lineup for the first time since September 1st, the Diamondbacks are hoping to bolster their offense. The outfielder was sidelined with a strained left calf but was heating up at the plate before his injury. In the 20 days leading up to his IL stint, Gurriel recorded hits in 15 games, raising his season batting average from .265 to .274.
The Diamondbacks, coming off a series-opening win on Thursday, will look to keep the momentum going with ace Zac Gallen on the mound. First pitch is set for 5:10 p.m. Arizona holds a narrow 1.5-game lead over the Braves for the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League.
