PHOENIX — As the Arizona Diamondbacks prepare for Opening Day next week, fans are anything but unified in their predictions for the 2026 season.
With a mix of optimism, frustration and realism, many fans appear to agree on one point: the path to contention will most likely run through a wild-card berth rather than a division title.
Much of that sentiment is tied to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ continued presence atop the National League West Division. Fans repeatedly point to the Dodgers’ financial advantage and star-studded roster.
High-profile stars have made their way to Los Angeles in recent seasons, including Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, helping turn the Dodgers into one of the toughest teams in baseball. However, the organization has also faced criticism from fans who believe the team has “bought” its success, particularly with contracts that include significant deferred payments.
Expectations have shifted in Arizona, with many claiming a wild-card spot is the Diamondbacks’ realistic ceiling. Still, pitching concerns are widely viewed as the biggest factor in determining whether the team makes a postseason push.
Bullpen depth remains a major concern among fans, often cited as a weakness following inconsistent performances in recent seasons. A lack of overall pitching depth is also frequently mentioned, along with the need to avoid the injuries that have plagued the roster in recent years.
During the 2025 season alone, the Diamondbacks dealt with injuries to key pitchers, including Corbin Burnes, A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez. Those absences exposed depth issues, particularly in late-game situations.
Despite those concerns, there is still a sense of optimism among a smaller but vocal group of fans who believe the Diamondbacks have the talent to make a deep postseason run. Some point to the club’s offensive potential and the possibility of key players returning from injury as reasons for confidence. A handful of fans have gone further, predicting a return to the World Series.
The core of the offense remains intact, led by Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo, who are all expected to play major roles. With additional veteran presence in the lineup, the offense could be more balanced this season.
Still, that level of confidence is the exception rather than the norm.
While opinions vary, the overall consensus is that the Snakes will be competitive, but not yet complete. The mood is largely cautious, shaped by concerns about roster construction and recent performance.
There is a belief that Arizona can contend under the right circumstances. However, pitching, durability and the reality of competing in a division that still runs through Los Angeles continue to fuel skepticism.

As one common fan sentiment suggests, simply reaching the postseason may be enough — and from there, anything can happen.
