Diamondbacks look to avoid letdown against MLB’s worst

After a pitching debacle last night at Chase Field, the Arizona Diamondbacks will look to get back on track against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

In a frustrating loss by score of 14 to 12 last night in Phoenix, the Diamondbacks have to figure out what’s going wrong and fast. This division is too good to be losing these types of games. Last night was the first time in franchise history where Arizona has scored 12 runs, and didn’t come out with a win.

Sunday’s starters:

If it wasn’t for the mishap in the Yankees matchup earlier this season, Merrill Kelly would be one of the most on point pitchers in the league. Over his last seven starts, Kelly boasts a 2.32 ERA. After last night, Arizona will need Kelly to keep up his recent trend of solid outings as slowing down Colorado’s energy is a major key.

Chase Dollander will be on the mound for the Rockies on Sunday. One of the most talented prospects for this Rockies franchise has had his moments where his talents shine, though it hasn’t added up for him yet. On the 2025 season, Dollander has a 2-4 record with a 6.88 ERA in 34 innings pitched. Although he turned in a great start in his last outing against the Texas Rangers, as Dollander pitched six innings and only gave up two earned runs on one hit.

Saying that the D-Backs have been on fire at the plate would be an understatement as they have put up 20 runs in this series already. They find themselves in a rubber match against the worst team in all of baseball, the Diamondbacks will need to make sure their bats come alive again to make sure they don’t let the lowly Rockies leave Arizona with a series win.
