Opening up a roster spot for Yilber Diaz, who is expected to make his Major League debut for the Diamondbacks in their game against the Atlanta Braves on Monday, Arizona optioned Joe Jacques to Triple-A Reno.
Jacques was just recently called up last week in the move that sent Cristian Mena back to Triple-A. Jacques made his first appearance in a Diamondbacks uniform in their loss against the Padres on July 5th. He allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk during his 1.1 innings on the mound.
As for Yilber Diaz, the 22-year-old has quickly worked through the minor league system this season. After initially starting in Double-A, Diaz was promoted to the Reno Aces a month ago. During his time with the Aces, Diaz posted a 3.27 ERA across four starts. On July 1st, amidst the Aces’ current 11-game winning streak, Diaz struck out 13 batters in a six-inning shutout.
Last year, the Diamondbacks split the season series against the Braves, 3-3. With four games remaining before the All-Star break, the Diamondbacks sit two games behind the San Diego Padres for the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League.
Arizona’s four-game series against Atlanta will start at 6:40 PM at Chase Field.
