PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to turn heads in the baseball world, earning the No. 3 spot in Bleacher Report’s latest MLB Power Rankings, released by Joel Reuter. With a deep rotation, high-powered offense, and bullpen upgrades, the D-backs are being recognized as a legitimate contender heading into the 2025 season just in time for opening day.

Why No. 3?

Arizona’s offensive firepower was quietly among the best in baseball last year, leading the majors with 886 runs scored. That lineup remains largely intact, aside from Joc Pederson’s departure and the arrival of Josh Naylor at first base to replace Christian Walker.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks made waves in free agency, acquiring Corbin Burnes to join a stacked rotation that already features Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Eduardo Rodríguez, and Brandon Pfaadt. This group gives Arizona one of the strongest pitching staffs in baseball.

Reuter highlighted that combination of offense and pitching depth as a major reason the D-backs are a top-tier team in his rankings. “Throw in A.J. Puk and Justin Martínez at the back of the bullpen, and this team looks like the real deal,” Reuter wrote.

Can the D-backs Challenge the Dodgers and Phillies?

Arizona’s ranking leaves room for debate. The Dodgers, ranked No. 1, have 11 pitchers projected to start the season on the injured list, but still remain the team to beat. Meanwhile, Reuter described the No. 2 Phillies as a team with an “aging core” but one that still has a championship window.

Arizona could push past Philadelphia if its offense continues to shine and Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte, two of the team’s most valuable players, elevate their games even further. Carroll has impressed in spring training, while Marte could be poised for another MVP-caliber season.

The D-backs’ quest for a title begins on Opening Day, March 27, against the Chicago Cubs at Chase Field. With a balanced roster and World Series aspirations, Arizona has a chance to prove it belongs at the very top of the league.
