The Arizona Diamondbacks received encouraging news ahead of Wednesday's series finale against the Colorado Rockies, as shortstop Geraldo Perdomo returned to the starting lineup after missing just one game with left knee soreness.

Perdomo exited Monday's game early because of the discomfort and sat out Tuesday's 3-2 loss as a precaution. However, Arizona restored him to the leadoff spot for Wednesday's rubber match, avoiding what initially appeared to be a potentially longer absence.

Alex Weiner shared the lineup update on Wednesday, confirming Perdomo's return after the brief injury scare.

Perdomo has remained one of Arizona's most dependable everyday players this season. Through 116 games, he is batting .244 with 101 hits, nine home runs, 42 RBIs and 17 stolen bases while serving as the club's primary shortstop and leadoff hitter. His return also allows the Diamondbacks to move utility players back into their regular bench roles after Ildemaro Vargas filled in during Tuesday's contest.

Arizona enters Wednesday at 64-57, holding the second National League Wild Card position after Tuesday's defeat trimmed its cushion in the postseason race. The Diamondbacks sit just ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Atlanta Braves continue to apply pressure from behind.

The quick recovery also prevents further strain on Arizona's infield depth with top prospect Jordan Lawlar still on the injured list. Having Perdomo available gives manager Torey Lovullo his regular defensive alignment as the club looks to secure a series win over Colorado.

Michael Soroka's recent return to the rotation has already strengthened Arizona's pitching staff, and Perdomo's immediate comeback provides another boost as the Diamondbacks continue their push for a National League postseason berth.
