Dodgers’ Alex Call receiving trade interest from 2 teams

With rumors surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of Monday’s trade deadline, there are many players who have been linked to the team, especially Detroit Tigers star pitcher Tarik Skubal. As it remains to be seen if the Dodgers land Skubal, the team is also being talked about in dealing away players, with Alex Call as a top candidate to find a new team after the deadline.

According to Katie Woo and Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, there have been teams that have shown “interest” in Call, who has currently recorded a .246 batting average to go along with one home run and 16 RBIs in 60 games (118 at-bats). The two teams specifically that are mentioned to have interest in Call are the Texas Rangers and the Philadelphia Phillies.

“The Dodgers remain active in the trade markets as teams express interest in outfielder Alex Call and left-hander Eric Lauer,” Woo and Ardaya wrote on Friday. “The Texas Rangers, who acquired high-leverage right-handed reliever Chase Silseth from the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, see Call as a fit, per a league source. The Philadelphia Phillies have also checked in and had heavy interest in Call last deadline before the Dodgers landed him.”

Alex Call’s role with the Dodgers is “redundant”

The Dodgers potentially trading Call isn’t a new development, as Woo reported on Monday that the team could shop the 31-year-old, saying that dealing him could be an avenue to bolster the farm system in the infield, catching, and pitching. Plus, Woo would mention how Call’s role on the team is “redundant,” with other teams likely to utilize him more.

“With Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernández healthy, and Kiké Hernandez set to be activated off the IL on Tuesday, Call’s spot on the roster is now redundant,” Woo wrote. “There are few right-handed bats available, and while Call wouldn’t be considered a power bat, his speed and plate discipline give him value as a depth piece for contending teams.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen if and where Call is traded to ahead of Monday’s deadline.
