The Los Angeles Dodgers enter July continuously linked to Tarik Skubal trade chatter. Los Angeles indeed delivered a pair of roster moves Thursday well ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. Both ahead of the San Diego Padres showdown, but had nothing to do with trades.
Here’s what LA pulled out on the recall/optioned front, with the franchise making the announcement.
“The Dodgers recalled RHP Paul Gervase and optioned LHP Charlie Barnes,” the team announced via the social media website X, formerly Twitter.
The latter heads down to Oklahoma City for his minor league assignment in this scenario. But he endured a rough outing against the Athletics which sparked this decision from manager Dave Roberts and the front office.
Barnes took the mound in Sacramento and pitched seven innings. But surrendered an astonishing 12 total hits and seven runs. Barnes struck out only two batters in the 7-1 A’s rout, which dropped the Dodgers record to 56-31 overall.
The 30-year-old Barnes is currently on his second MLB team for 2026. He played with the Chicago Cubs before being claimed off waivers by LA. Barnes previously signed a minor league contract with Chicago and landed on the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. He delivered strong results there with posting a 3-0 mark and 2.38 ERA. Now he’s back in the minors following his rough Wednesday night.
Gervase brings unique NBA-like height to the hill. He stands at 6-foot-10 and is currently on his second season with the defending World Series champions. Gervase started out originally with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2025 before heading to LA.
