Dodgers Announce Blake Snell Update Before Brewers Game

Left-handed starting pitcher Blake Snell is in his first season as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers after signing a $182 million, five-year contract this past offseason.

Snell was drafted in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays and made his big-league debut in 2016.

Over his ten-year MLB career, Snell has spent time with the Rays, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants, collecting two Cy Young Awards (2018, 2023) and earning one All-Star selection before landing in L.A.

He owns a lifetime 3.18 ERA in 213 starts and has recorded 1,372 strikeouts.

In 2025, Snell has been sidelined since early April with left shoulder inflammation. The injury occurred during his second start of the season on April 6 and was retroactively placed on the 15-day injured list beginning April 3 before being transferred to the 60-day IL.

After a successful bullpen session earlier this week—and with manager Dave Roberts noting a rehab assignment would follow if he responded well—the Dodgers announced today before the series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers that Snell will begin his minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday.

Los Angeles’s pitching staff has been decimated by injuries this season. The club enters Wednesday on a five-game losing streak and has leaned heavily on its bullpen this season, underscoring how vital it is to get Snell and other starters back in the rotation.

Snell was outstanding down the stretch for San Francisco in 2024, posting a 3.12 ERA in 20 starts and striking out 145 batters over 104 innings.
