The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently in the midst of a season-best seven-game winning streak heading into Friday’s series opener against the Miami Marlins.
However, they have been getting it done recently without two of their biggest superstars. Two-way player Shohei Ohtani is currently on the 15-day injured list dealing with multiple issues in his left knee and right biceps and will not pitch again this year.
As for Freddie Freeman, the 36-year-old veteran did not play Wednesday’s series finale against the Cincinnati Reds due to right knee discomfort. He also did not play the field during Tuesday’s game due to the same issue.
Freeman is still performing at an elite level, now in his fifth season in Los Angeles. Across 140 games, he has posted a .297 batting average, .375 on-base percentage, .828 OPS, 16 home runs and 66 RBIs.
Ahead of Friday’s series opener, Freeman was once again held out of the Dodgers’ starting lineup.
Speaking with reporters pregame, manager Dave Roberts had an update on the plan for Freeman. Roberts revealed that Freeman will not be available in any capacity for Friday’s game, even off the bench.
However, he did add that he expects Freeman will be right back in the lineup on Saturday, per Jack Harris of The California Post.

With Roberts’ plan, Freeman will essentially get five full days off his feet in hopes of getting his right knee back to a level of comfort.
The extended rest may also benefit him at the plate, as he has been struggling recently, collecting just one hit in his last 18 at-bats.
Getting him healthy and locked back in before the playoffs begin is the priority, and five days off is a small price to pay for a team on a seven-game winning streak that can clearly win without him in the lineup.
