Third baseman Max Muncy has been a staple in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lineup since his arrival ahead of the 2018 season. The 34-year-old has since collected two World Series titles with Los Angeles (2020, 2024) along with two All-Star selections and even received NL MVP votes during his peak.

Muncy is most well-known for his eye at the plate and his ability to read the strike zone and draw walks, along with capitalizing on mistakes with his elite power. He has continued this approach into the latter stages of his career allowing him to continue his success.

Throughout 91 games for the Dodgers this year, Muncy has posted a .252 batting average, .383 on-base percentage, .862 OPS, 17 home runs and 64 RBIs.

Max Muncy Injury Update

Muncy’s biggest concern this season has been his availability and his momentum was once again halted Friday night during the series opener against the San Francisco Giants. After being struck by a pitch from Giants left-hander Joey Lucchesi in the top of the eighth inning with a fastball to the wrist, he was checked on immediately by trainers along with manager Dave Roberts and ended up staying in the game.

Muncy was removed in the bottom half of the inning and replaced by teammate Miguel Rojas at third base. The Dodgers announced post-game via Roberts that x-rays came back negative and Muncy would likely return to the lineup on Saturday. (h/t Blake Harris)

This comes as one of the first positive injury update for Muncy as he has had an excellent season that has been derailed by injury. Muncy’s appearance on Friday was just his third game back after spending a stint on the injured list for a month with a strained right oblique.

If Muncy did land on the injured list it would have marked his third stint of the year as he had also previously spent time out dealing with a left knee bone bruise. With October baseball approaching, Muncy’s availability down the stretch will be crucial as the Dodgers are currently in a tight race for first place in the NL West with the rival San Diego Padres just two games behind.
