The Toronto Blue Jays have won four straight games to pull even at 20-20. It has been an up-and-down start to the 2025 MLB season for Toronto, but its .500 record is good for third in the AL East, and sits just three games back of the first place New York Yankees.
Toronto will begin a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Ahead of this series, the Blue Jays made the decision to designate right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate for assignment. This transaction was initiated on Friday, per MLB's official transactions page.
On Monday, the Blue Jays announced Tate cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A.
In this same announcement, Toronto revealed a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers that sends outfielder Steward Berroa to LA. The Dodgers also announced the deal on their end via a post on X.
"The Dodgers acquired OF Steward Berroa from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash considerations," the team wrote on X.

Berroa has just 28 games of MLB experience, all coming last season with Toronto. The 25-year-old outfielder went just 7-for-37 (.189) in his limited action, driving in one run while striking out 14 times.
There could be a small window of opportunity for Berroa in Los Angeles, because Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 6 with a left groin strain. On Wednesday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Hernandez could miss about two weeks if he progresses well ( via LA Times).
Amid the news of Hernandez's injury timeline, the Dodgers land Berroa who will provide some organizational outfield depth.
