The Los Angeles Dodgers have stumbled to begin the month of September, recently being swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates — the last-place team in the National League Central.

Although the team is struggling, the pitching staff has finally begun to get healthy with the playoffs approaching, and this time around Tyler Glasnow figures to be part of the Dodgers’ postseason run.

The 32-year-old right-hander was a Cy Young contender in 2024 before going down with an elbow sprain, and in 2025 he’s missed a chunk of the season recovering from right shoulder inflammation.

When on the mound for Los Angeles, Glasnow has been effective, posting a 3.46 ERA and 249 strikeouts in 202 2/3 innings over his Dodgers tenure.

Tyler Glasnow Injury Update

The biggest issue throughout Glasnow’s 10-year career has been his health, and ahead of the Dodgers’ series opener on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles, he was unexpectedly scratched with Shohei Ohtani drawing the start instead.

Before the game, the Dodgers announced via manager Dave Roberts that Glasnow had reported back tightness.

“Dave Roberts said Tyler Glasnow reported back tightness. That’s why he was scratched. Plan is to push him back ‘a few days’ and have him start ‘early next week,’” wrote The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.

Thankfully, Glasnow’s injury won’t force him to miss extended time. It would be a huge blow for both Glasnow and the organization, as he’s expected to be a key part of the team’s postseason rotation.

Glasnow dealt with a blister issue in his previous start against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but it didn’t seem to affect his performance — he still tossed seven innings, allowed three runs and struck out six. That issue now appears to be behind him.

He’s expected to return early next week during the Dodgers’ upcoming series against the Colorado Rockies.

If his back does not recover in time, the Dodgers have the depth to cover quality innings in a playoff series, with Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto forming an exceptional one-two punch, along with Clayton Kershaw, Ohtani and Emmet Sheehan filling out the back end.

Still, if Glasnow misses a second consecutive postseason run, his five-year, $136 million contract will begin to look like a questionable investment — not because of performance, but because of availability.
