Perhaps Clayton Kershaw still has something left in the tank. The left-handed starter is among the best to ever toe the rubber in Major League Baseball history, and is a guaranteed Hall of Famer one day.
In fact, there's even a strong argument to be made that Kershaw has been the best starter in baseball over the past few decades.
That's up for everybody else to decide, but his recent outing against the San Francisco Giants was a very promising sign, as the Dodgers are looking for someone to eat innings, at the very least.
If Kershaw can come in and throw to a 3.25 ERA for the remainder of the season and give them six-plus in every outing, they'd be very happy.
After making his debut on May 17, it was a bit surprising to see him go 7.0 innings on Saturday, allowing just three hits, one walk, and striking out five.
There were some concerns about how he'd feel after that, but according to the all-time great, he feels excellent, the most important part.
“Maybe it’s my personality, I don’t know, you never feel great about it,” Kershaw said. “I think there’s always things you want to have back.
“But the results, ultimately, at the end of the day, to win the game, that’s the most important thing. In the moment, I can think of some pitches off the top of my head that I’d like to have back, that I’d like to throw better. But there’s no restrictions physically, health-wise, which is great. It’s just kind of pitching now, which is good,” Kerhsaw said, per The Athletic.
If Kershaw's health can be where he needs it to be, there's no reason that he can't continue to find success at the highest level.
He's done nothing but get outs at the highest level throughout his big league career, and has continuously proved why many consider him one of the best ever.
