Dodgers’ Dave Roberts gets brutally honest after Diamondbacks sweep

There are no signs of panic within the Los Angeles Dodgers locker room. There are signs of annoyance, however, after the Dodgers were swept in a three-game series at home by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Even with the three-game losing streak, the Dodgers still own an 11.5-game lead in the National League West over the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers were outscored 23-8 in the series, and that kind of showing looked nothing like the way the Dodgers have played the majority of the season.

Dave Roberts, the long-time manager of the back-to-back World Series champions, was not happy with his team’s effort.

“At the end of the day, they outplayed us,” Roberts said. “They wanted it more than we did. They are a desperate team and they played hard and they fought for it. We have not played well for the last five or six games and every game is important.”

The Dodgers go into the All-Star break having lost five of their last seven games, and that is clearly enough for Roberts to notice that his team is not running on all cylinders. It will give him an opportunity to set a tone for his team when the Dodgers open the second half of the season with a three-game series against the New York Yankees.

This will be the Dodgers’ first trip back to the Bronx since they defeated the Yankees in five games in the 2024 World Series. A series against the Yankees always gets the attention of the Dodgers, so it seems likely that Roberts will be able to get his players’ attention.
