The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres don't like each other. The Dodgers, one of the best teams in Major League Baseball, are a team that the Padres are looking to catch.
Unfortunately for San Diego, they haven't been able to do that in recent years.
But there has been some heat between the two sides in the past, when third baseman Manny Machado threw a ball at the Dodgers' dugout, almost hitting skipper Dave Roberts, last year.
Machado has done some questionable things in the past, but throwing a baseball at somebody is a new low, and something nobody on the Dodgers should stand for.
When speaking to reporters about the incident, Roberts admitted that there was intent behind it and didn't sound too happy.
"There was intent behind it," Roberts later said of that throw, per MLB.com. "It didn't almost hit me because there was a net. And that was very bothersome. If it was intended at me ... it's pretty disrespectful."
As noted, this isn't the first time that Machado has done something that he shouldn't do on a baseball field. While he's quieted his antics a bit since leaving the Baltimore Orioles, he's also made some very questionable decisions, notably stepping on the first baseman's ankles and doing much more.
The future Hall of Famers spent one season with the Dodgers in 2018, hitting 273 after being acquired by them at the deadline from the Orioles. The Dodgers didn't win a World Series That season, and Machado eventually left in free agency.
When speaking about that incident now, Roberts admitted that he and Machado haven’t talked since last year, but that things are behind them, showing he’s a class-first skipper.
"I'm sure we'll chat," Roberts said, per Alden Gonazlez. "There’s a mutual respect. Like I said last year, it’s gamesmanship. We’re doing what we can to help our clubs win. But the love and respect, nothing's changed.”
