Dodgers' Dustin May Reveals Emotion After Pitching Return

Once a highly touted prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, Dustin May has been in and out of rehab for multiple injuries over the past couple of seasons. He even had a health scare after an esophagus tear kept him off the mound longer than expected.

May features nasty movement on his fastball, and his lanky, funky delivery deceives hitters in a variety of ways, along with a plus off-speed pitch. The Dodgers did not give up on May, who is still just 27 years old and fighting for the team's last rotation spot. He missed all of 2024 dealing with health issues and started only nine games in 2023.

In the Dodgers' first Cactus League victory against the San Diego Padres, May got the start for Los Angeles and pitched a clean first inning, even recording a strikeout.

He took to social media following the game and let everyone know how he was feeling.

There's no doubt he has a long way to go before becoming a reliable starter again. With Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki already solidified as starters, nothing is guaranteed for him in the rotation.

However, it's clear the Dodgers have not given up on him, and he will likely get an opportunity to prove if he can be as effective as he once was.

May is a 2020 World Series champion with the Dodgers, and in that COVID-ridden season, he threw 56 innings over 10 starts and recorded a 2.57 ERA.

The biggest knock on him is his health; everyone in the Dodgers organization understands that his pitching arsenal is lethal, and if healthy, he can be a difference-maker.
