Dodgers end NL West’s insane 20-game losing streak

The Los Angeles Dodgers finally got back in the win column on Sunday. Los Angeles was on a four-game losing streak, before defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1. In fact, the entire National League West was mired in a losing streak going into Sunday.

“The Dodgers end the NL West’s 20-game losing streak with 4-1 victory over the Cardinals,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Each team in the NL West was on at least a three-game skid, entering Sunday. While some teams weren’t able to snap the streak, the Dodgers were able to get that done.

Los Angeles’ win on Sunday prevented them from getting swept by St. Louis. The Cardinals entered Sunday’s game on a six-game win streak.

“This is one of those things where it’s a gut check, in the sense of you don’t want to get swept,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said before the game Sunday, per MLB.com. “We have a chance to salvage the series, and this is … certainly not a must-win, but this is a game that we need to find a way to win.”

The Dodgers aren’t used to losing. Los Angeles has won the last two World Series championships, and the club has assembled a plethora of top talent. That includes Shohei Ohtani, who is as good a pitcher as he is a slugger.

Ohtani wasn’t on the mound Sunday. Instead, it was Justin Wrobleski on the hill for Los Angeles. He finished his day working six innings without allowing an earned run. He did allow six hits to St. Louis in the game.

The Dodgers are now 21-13 on the season, after winning Sunday. Los Angeles continues to lead the NL West.
