The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Monday that right-handed pitcher Edwin Diaz has been placed on the 15-day injured list. The team recalled left-handed pitcher Jake Eder from Triple-A Oklahoma City to replace Diaz in the rotation.

Ever since the Puerto Rican national left the New York Mets to join the back-to-back World Series champions in the offseason, Diaz's performances have been a bit of a roller coaster. Diaz has been credited for four saves this season but has slumped during his last few appearances.

During his recent appearance against the Colorado Rockies, Diaz allowed three hits and a walk while being unable to record a single out. The Dodgers went on to lose to the Rockies 9-6.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was quick to downplay Diaz's recent struggles, but couldn't keep the charade for long, as the team finally revealed why Diaz has been struggling in the first place. Diaz was assigned to the injured list with right elbow loose bodies.

In seven appearances for the Dodgers this season, has a 10.50 ERA, the highest in his career. He's credited with a win and has 10 strikeouts in six innings played.

Despite calling up Eder as a Diaz replacement, Tanner Scott still remains an option to help the team close out games. Scott has shown quite an improvement in pitching since his disastrous run in 2025.

Throughout the 2025 MLB season, Scott gave up a 4.74 ERA, one of the highest in his career. His constant struggles in pitching led to the team deciding to keep him out of the lineup for the entire 2025 postseason.

Scott has already played 10 games this season, and his improvements have been very visible. With a 1.04 ERA, including eight strikeouts and one run allowed, Scott has made the most of the opportunity and displayed his strengths.

With an uncertainty on how long Diaz will be out of the lineup, the Dodgers need to decide whether to rely on Scott as a closer or give their recent call-up to show his ability. With the experience already on his side, it makes sense to use Scott and show how much he has grown over the past few months.

The Dodgers currently sit in first place in the NL West and hold the best record in the league. The team will look to return to the World Series once again and become the first team to win three straight championships since the Yankees accomplished it between 1998-2000.
