Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman battling knee injury concern

Los Angeles Dodgers star first baseman Freddie Freeman was the designated hitter on Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds. It seemed as if the move was simply to give Freeman some rest without a complete day off. However, Freeman is out of the lineup on Wednesday, a decision that understandably led to some uncertainty around the situation. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts later revealed that Freeman is dealing with a right knee issue, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

“Freddie Freeman’s right knee is bothering him, Dave Roberts said. That’s why he DH’ed last night and is off tonight,” Ardaya reported.

UPDATE: Roberts said Freeman is not expected to land on the injured list, Ardaya reports.

The Dodgers are still in a quality position overall from a standings standpoint, but injuries continue to be a problem. The hope is that Freeman is not battling a serious injury. Updates on his status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.

The 36-year-old slugger is in the middle of another strong season. He is hitting .297 with an .828 OPS so far during the ’26 campaign. The Dodgers know how valuable Freeman is to their success, so they are understandably going to proceed with extreme caution when it comes to Freeman’s injury concern.

Los Angeles is currently playing a three-game series against Cincinnati at home. The Dodgers took the first two games by final scores of 6-3 and 3-2 on Monday and Tuesday. LA will look to sweep the series with another big win on Wednesday night. First pitch for the ball game is scheduled for 10:10 PM ET at Dodger Stadium.
