It was recently reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today that the Los Angeles Dodgers were interested in trading for Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox.
The deal clearly wasn't finalized, but it could be an indication that the White Sox are interested in making a deal with the Dodgers, if Los Angeles is willing to part ways with some of its top prospects.
The Dodgers' farm system is above average, but it isn’t elite, and the White Sox are hopeful they can get a huge return for the right-handed slugger.
According to Nightengale, Chicago hopes to have its All-Star player traded by Memorial Day, far before the deadline at the end of July.
“Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert finally started to hit (.346 with three homers, eight RBI and six stolen bases) this past week. If he continues, the White Sox hope to have him traded by Memorial Day,” he wrote.
Reports have recently indicated that the White Sox are looking to get a massive package in return.
It'll be interesting to see if any Major League Baseball team meets that asking price, as Robert hasn't exactly been perfect during his time at the big league level.
Despite sharing signs of being an excellent player, he's only played in over 100 games once in his six-year career. Outside of his 2023 campaign, where he hit 38 home runs and posted a 130 OPS+, it isn't exactly like he's been elite.
He was great in 2021, posting a 154 OPS+, but played in just 68 games.
The Dodgers will have to be smart in making a trade, but doing so makes sense, and it sounds like he's available for the taking.
