The Los Angeles Dodgers made the most significant free-agent signing this sport has and will ever see this past weekend. Shohei Ohtani is officially a Dodger.
The Dodgers will immediately compete for World Series titles, but what else is new, right?
LA has always had immense talent, whether it's via trades, free-agent signings or through their farm system. The Dodgers' farm system has been elite for the past handful of seasons, and we've had a chance to witness a lot of the prospects firsthand this past season.
Although the talk of the town remains the current stars either as free agents or on the trade block, having a solid farm system does wonders for a team — just ask Ohtani. MLB insider for Bleacher Report Joel Reuter updated the MLB farm system rankings, and the Boys in Blue landed at No. 10.
Here are the notable top prospects for LA.
Top 10 Prospects
1. C Dalton Rushing (Tier 1)
2. 2B Michael Busch (Tier 1)
3. RHP Nick Frasso (Tier 1)
4. RHP Kyle Hurt (Tier 2)
5. OF Josue De Paula (Tier 2)
6. C Diego Cartaya (Tier 2)
7. OF Andy Pages (Tier 2)
8. C Thayron Liranzo (Tier 2)
9. RHP Landon Knack (Tier 3)
10. 3B Jake Gelof (Tier 3)
At the top of the list for the Dodgers is their 2022 second-round draft pick, catcher Dalton Rushing. Rushing has great power and can hit both left and right-handed pitchers. He's continued to shoot up the rankings over the last year.
Interestingly, neither of the players the Dodgers had to give up for Tyler Glasnow — Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca — were in these rankings, which came out prior to the deal.
The Dodgers still have tons of talent, which is why they can continue to be active in trade talks.
However, for the players that do stay with the Dodgers, there's no doubt many of them will flourish in the organization.
