Dodgers Lose Top Reliever to Injured List

The pitching injuries continue to pile up for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On Saturday night, the Dodgers announced that they have placed right-handed relief pitcher Blake Treinen on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. As a result, they have called up pitcher Chayce McDermott.

Losing Treinen is a significant blow for a Dodgers bullpen that is already without closer Edwin Diaz (elbow surgery).

Treinen, 37, has posted a 3.52 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 25 strikeouts across 23 innings this season. However, he had a 5.06 ERA in his last 5.1 inning before landing on the IL.

Even still, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts relies on Treinen to be one of the bullpen's top high-leverage arms.

Last season, Treinen missed over three months of action due to right forearm tightness. Overall, Treinen had a poor 2025 campaign, posting a 5.40 ERA in 26.2 innings.

This season is Treinen's sixth year with the Dodgers. He has a 2.84 ERA in 199.1 innings with Los Angeles, but has also blown 14 saves.

Treinen is currently in the final year of a two-year, $22 million deal that he signed with the Dodgers in December of 2024.

The Dodgers will hope that his stay on the injured list is a minimal one. That being said, elbow injuries are always concerning for a pitcher. The best-case scenario is that it's just inflammation for Treinen and not something more serious in terms of ligament damage.

It's unknown if Treinen is headed for an MRI.

As for McDermott, the Dodgers acquired the righty in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles back in April.

McDermott made his Dodgers debut on May 17 against the Los Angeles Angels before getting optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City the following day.

McDermott will now get a chance to contribute in the Dodgers bullpen with Treinen on the shelf.
