The Los Angeles Dodgers took control of the MLB playoffs for a second straight season in 2025, capturing back-to-back championships in dramatic fashion. Facing elimination, the Dodgers won Games 6 and 7 against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre to come from behind in the Fall Classic and secure the World Series title.

Despite the victory, the team had to overcome unexpected bullpen challenges. Left-handed reliever Alex Vesia was left off the World Series roster, as the Dodgers announced he and his wife Kayla were attending to a deeply personal family matter. It was a significant loss for Los Angeles, as Vesia had been one of manager Dave Roberts’ most trusted options in high-leverage situations.

The 29-year-old has appeared in 26 postseason games across five playoff runs with the Dodgers since he arrived in 2021. He has consistently delivered in big moments, posting a 1.86 ERA with 23 strikeouts and one save.

As Vesia continues to attend to his personal family matter, the Dodgers made an easy decision on Thursday to pick up his $3.55 million club option for 2026. “Source: Dodgers also picked up Alex Vesia's $3.55 million club option for 2026. Another no-brainer,” reported Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

A club option allows a team to extend a player’s contract for an additional season at a predetermined salary. If the Dodgers had declined it, Vesia would have become a free agent and been eligible to sign elsewhere.

Given Vesia’s production, the move was expected. During the regular season he appeared in 68 games, the most out of any other pitcher on the active roster. His production did not falter either as he posted a 4–2 record, 3.02 ERA and 80 strikeouts over 59 2/3 innings.

Vesia notched five saves for Los Angeles as well. Next year will mark his sixth season in Los Angeles, where he has built a reputation for delivering in high-leverage moments and providing energy to his teammates around him.

The front office has repeatedly praised his work ethic and presence in the clubhouse, viewing him as a tone-setter for the bullpen. With the club chasing a three-peat in 2026, Vesia will look to play a key role in another deep postseason run.
