The Los Angeles Dodgers will begin their quest for a second consecutive World Series title on Tuesday, opening up a wild card series against the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers closed out the regular season with a sweep of the Seattle Mariners, resting several key players ahead of the postseason. Max Muncy, however, was sidelined not simply for rest but due to another injury setback, with manager Dave Roberts revealing he had been dealing with a lower body issue.

Muncy has remained a force at the plate in his tenth big-league season, punishing pitchers for mistakes over the plate and grinding out at-bats with his eye and ability to draw walks. Over 100 appearances in 2025, the 35-year-old veteran owned a .243 batting average, .376 on-base percentage, .846 OPS, 19 home runs and 67 RBIs.

Max Muncy Shares Update Ahead of MLB Playoffs

With the postseason approaching, concerns began to mount after Muncy’s regular season absence extended to four straight missed games.

Muncy had insisted on being on the roster ahead of the wild card series, and the Dodgers cannot afford to lose his bat in the lineup as the club is already shorthanded without the services of Will Smith. Fortunately, Muncy made an announcement on Monday, saying that he’ll be available for Game 1 against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday (h/t SportsNet LA’s David Vassegh).

This is a positive development for the Dodgers, as Muncy will be expected to be a force against the Reds. With Cincinnati announcing right-hander Hunter Greene as the team’s Game 1 starting pitcher, Muncy will look to continue mashing in favorable platoon matchups. Over 243 regular season at-bats against right-handed pitchers, the left-handed slugger had 16 home runs, 57 RBIs, 57 walks and a .923 OPS.

Muncy will also once again be expected to be a leader in the locker room, as he’s been part of several deep postseason runs and captured two World Series titles in 2020 and 2024.
