The Los Angeles Dodgers have routinely acquired some of the league’s best players through MLB free agency and trades with other organizations. However, one of their most important pieces over the past decade was once available to anyone, that player being third baseman Max Muncy.

The 35‑year‑old veteran is preparing for his 10th season with the organization, and he remains one of Los Angeles’ best reclamation projects after originally signing a minor‑league deal in 2017 following his release from the Athletics.

With the Dodgers, Muncy has played a central role in delivering three World Series titles and has individually earned two All‑Star selections. His time in Los Angeles is not ending soon either, as he signed a one‑year, $7 million extension this winter for the 2027 season, which includes a $10 million club option for 2028.

As Muncy prepares for his 10th season, he is looking to stay healthier after dealing with multiple setbacks last year, including a left knee bone bruise, a right oblique strain and other minor issues.

That is what makes his status so important this spring as he works through a full ramp‑up. According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Muncy had been away from camp with an illness.

“Max Muncy has been out of #Dodgers camp with an illness. Back today,” Plunkett wrote on X. The good news for Los Angeles is that Muncy has returned and appears to be fully healthy.

The Dodgers will need him at full strength this season because if he can replicate last year’s production, it will be a major boost, especially with Muncy likely hitting toward the bottom of the lineup. Last season, he posted a .243 batting average, .376 on‑base percentage, .846 OPS, 19 home runs and 67 RBIs across 100 games.

Muncy’s presence gives the Dodgers a proven, steady bat who lengthens the lineup and brings championship experience to a roster chasing history. His ability to stay healthy and productive could quietly become one of the deciding factors in Los Angeles’ push for a three‑peat.
