Dodgers' Mookie Betts latest MLB player to avoid 'haunted' Milwaukee hotel

It appears Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star outfielder Mookie Betts is the latest MLB player not taking any chances as it pertains to a certain Milwaukee hotel.

According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Betts elected against staying at the team hotel for the midweek series at the Milwaukee Brewers because it is supposedly haunted by paranormal beings. Instead, Betts stayed with friends who rented an Airbnb even though the 30-year-old claimed he doesn't believe in ghosts.

"You can tell me what happened after," Betts said about teammates staying at the Pfister Hotel located in downtown Milwaukee. "I just don’t want to find out myself."

Last summer, members of the Tampa Bay Rays discussed teammates feeling bothered over spending time at the Pfister, which was built in 1893. Betts admitted he'd never experienced any paranormal event at the hotel but nevertheless had trouble resting and, thus, decided to instead spend nights at the Airbnb.

"I couldn’t sleep," Betts explained. "Every noise, I’d be like, 'Is that something?'"

ESPN mentioned a piece written by Stacey Pressman for ESPN The Magazine all the way back in 2013 that detailed stories from MLB players who insisted they encountered some spooky occurrences at the Pfister, such as a radio mysteriously turning on and hearing footsteps "stomping" inside a room. Justin Upton acknowledged at the time he had to sleep "with the blinds open and the lights on," and Pablo Sandoval was among those who paid out of pocket to stay elsewhere during at least one road trip.

"Man, I hate when we have four games there," current New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton told ESPN in 2013. "Two, three, anything’s better than four. It’s freaky as s---, with the head-shot paintings on the walls and the old curtains everywhere. It reminds me of the Disneyland Haunted House. The less time I’m there, the better."

Fortunately for Betts and Los Angeles players not quite as outspoken about what may or may not be happening at the Pfister on a daily basis, the Dodgers will head home after Wednesday's game at the Brewers for a three-game series against the San Diego Padres. There's no indication any of the "ghosts" who visit MLB players at the Pfister like to travel for Milwaukee away games.
