The Los Angeles Dodgers will attempt to extend their NL West lead as they take on the red-hot San Francisco Giants in a three-game series that starts on Friday.
This will be the second of three straight division series the Dodgers will play after they were able to clinch their first matchup against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.
As they continue to battle injuries throughout their pitching lineup, rookie right-handed pitcher Roki Sasaki has been looking to get back into the action after suffering a shoulder impingement injury on May 9 in a start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He joined the long list of Dodgers pitchers on the injured list and has been rehabbing his shoulder in hopes that he will return to the mound later in the month.
Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior was able to give an update on the 23-year-old rookie, and it seems that the team is being patient with Sasaki despite the injury problem Los Angeles has been having.
"He is pain-free, but hasn’t gotten to the point where he can put enough intensity to push forward in his progression. It’s just a light catch, just exercising in his throw and not necessarily pushing the throw,” Prior said, according to Gabe Smallson of SI.
Sasaki is currently on the Dodgers' 15-day injured list and will be monitored moving forward in the season.
The Japan Pacific League star signed with the Dodgers to a one-year, $760,000 minor league contract that included a $6.5 million signing bonus with Los Angeles due to his age being under 25 years old.
Through his first eight starts in the major leagues, he's gone through struggling adjustments, posting a 4.72 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and has struck out 24 batters in 34.1 innings pitched.
The Dodgers will look to continue their strong season as they host the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium.
Ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto is set to start the series against Giants' pitcher Logan Webb.
